Chocolate Brownie Bliss Balls

chocolate-brownie-bliss-balls

Just over eight years ago I met this girl, the most beautiful girl I had ever known. She stole a piece of my heart bigger than any piece I had given out before.

We have gone on to share everything, every single little thing.

It is her who held my hand through my years of IVF.

It is her who wiped my tears when my husband was going through cancer and I was holding my precious baby boy whose cries wouldn’t cease.

It is her who kept me afloat when I felt I was going to drown.

It is her who laughed at the silly things and who made me laugh at the silly things.

It is her who always had my back and I have always had hers.

It is her who took my side when everyone else thought I was hopeless.

It is her who saw the best in me, time and again.

It is her who showed me just how brightly the sun could shine.

It is her who taught me that love really is the be all and end all.

These days I sometimes wonder if the bond we have always shared is as strong. These days I feel like there are a few more things putting our relationship to the test. These days I sometimes think that perhaps she will soon back away.

And every night, when my house is silent and my babies and husband are sleeping soundly, I silently pray that this girl I love more than she can ever know will not stray too far, will not leave my side, will not push me away. I silently pray that the intense closeness that I share with this girl who grew inside me and whose heart beat next to mine, will be a closeness we know for a lifetime.

Bianca my dear, you and Elise will ALWAYS have the strongest of bonds, believe me. xx It might feel like she’s moving away from you, and in a way, she has to, to find her own path, test boundaries (Haha, we know what that means!), but as long as you always love her completely unconditionally, your bond will never break. I’m a firm believer in boundaries, letting children know what is and isn’t acceptable behaviour. You have to say “No” at times to all children- this way they know what the boundaries are ( although they will obviously try and break them down, from time to time!) As long as you let her know, every day that you love her, and make time just for her, you will never lose her. My mum always used to say.. “Never let the sun go down on your anger”, which we’ve both lived by. My daughter is almost 30, and we only see each other every few months, but even now, neither of us can go for more than a day without contacting the other and she assures me that our relationship is…THE BEST! BTW ,these bliss balls look gorgeous!

    • Oh I love this!!!! Thank YOU so much!!! So glad you and your daughter are as close as you are. It is such a special relationship. Sending love to you. x

this gave me goosebumps – I am mummy to 3 daughters 5yrs and twin 2 yrs and I secretly have this fear all the time…will they understand that everything I do I do for them….when I am busy working or sewing their school costumes together….packing lunches…too busy sometimes to stop what I am doing to look at the picture they have just drawn…because they seem to do something ‘new’ every 5 mins. I think as mothers we all share this fear, as they grow older I know they will understand as I now have the most deep connection to my own mother and strong love that nothing could break! My mum worked 2 jobs at times to make ends meet so we (her 4 children) could have all opportunities in life. She has raised 4 successful children, happily married with our own families. <3

    • Thank YOU for taking the time to read my words and for sharing your own, I really appreciate it! xxxx

I have a question – can you ever substitute dried dates in these recipes? I know they are not as sweet but I always have dried dates on hand but can’t always get to the shops to purchase fresh dates

    • Sure can, just increase the amount and soak briefly in warm water. x

Would using pepita’s in place of the walnuts work? I have 200g of pepita’s I’d like to use up at once!

Beautiful words, I can certainly relate to them as I enjoy and treasure each and every moment with my little girl too. As for the bliss balls…Yum! Really good, and taste so much like brownies! I just made them to satisfy my husband’s after dinner sweet craving and he said they were perfect. Thanks again!

    • That is great to hear Jane!! Thank YOU for the feedback. I hope you find many more recipes that you enjoy. Be sure to let me know. x

I’ve made a few of your bliss balls over and over but I don’t think I would make these again…. waaay too delicious I just ate 3 in one go and they’re calling me from the fridge. Thanks again for keeping me away from the processed stuff my husband keeps in the house.

    • This made me laugh! Thank YOU! I am glad you enjoyed them. x

Hi Bianca. I’ve been reading your blog for years and have really enjoyed it. You write so well and also bring it back to the simple and most important things in life. I’ve made more than 30 of your recipes and this would have to be one of my absolute favourites. I make this regularly. I don’t have a Vitamix or powerful blender so I find that I have to add a teaspoon of water or maple syrup to many of your bliss ball recipes to help them come together. But they taste amazing.

Hi Bianca, just letting you know that I made these for a client, but nut free with pepitas and sunflower seeds – of which I lightly dry toasted on the stove – aaahhhmmmazing result 😊
